Like most exercise machinery, StreetStrider comes at a pretty steep cost. While Riders are built for every body, they certainly are not built for every budget. Models at the lower end of the spectrum, with minimal capabilities and fewer custom settings, can run you up to $1,700. More advanced models, like the 11s, can cost you up to $4,500. The good news is payment plans are available and relatively affordable. You can pay as little as $39/monnth for modest models, and as much as $120/month for more versatile riders. The bad news is you have to pre-qualify for each payment plan. Holiday sales are available. Some models are up to $1,000 off.

Cost Compared to Competitors

Compared to EliptiGO, StreetStrider is definitely the more expensive choice, but there's a catch. Where ElipitiGO offers more affordable models--as low as $799 for a lower end "bike"--these models offer fewer funntionalities and are less popular among riders. Models from EliptiGO that are analogous to the ride and quality of StreetStrider put these brands more or less on par pricewise. More advanced models from EliptiGO quickly scale up cost to the consumer, with bikes comparable to the standard StreetStrider 3i coming in right around the $1,300 mark.

Pros:

The StreetStrider is a quality exercise machine that does exactly what it says. It gives people an alternative to running and biking that is easier on the joints, burns more calories, and allows you to enjoy the outdoors. Customer reviews and testimonials are overwhelmingly positive, and the health benefits speak for themselves.

StreetStrider is a truly unique way to exercise. It not only benefits heart health, overall physical strength, and reduces joint aches and pains, but it's fun. It combines running, biking, and skiing in a single activity. Some describe the movement as "running on air." StreetStrider captures the functionality and benefits of an elliptical in a machine that you can take outside the gym or home. It's a fun, new way to exercise, and it gives a full-body workout.

Not looking to get out and about, but want a great workout anyway? The StreetStrider is adaptable to a stationary elliptical you can set up right in your own home. Setup is easy and while the stands need to be purchased separately--again, at a steep price--being able to take the StreetStrider from outdoor to indoor use can really amplify convenient daily use. Whether it's a summer rain, or you want to stay in shape during those rough and chilly winter months, the indoor capability allows you to make the most of your StreetStrider year-round.

StreetStrider offers pretty great holiday sales and payment plans. If the cost makes this product inaccessible to you, this is a brand that builds in more affordable options with 0% APR financing, monthly payments as low as $39/month, and holiday sales with price reductions up to $1,000/off even the more advanced Street Rider models.

Cons:

Their return policy is complicated with a capital C, and their returns and exchanges page reads discouraging, to say the least. It opens with a statement about the quality and benefits of StreetStrider, before detailing an overly complicated return/exchange process. At such a steep price point, it feels all the more worrying that in the event the StreetStrider just isn't for you, your dollars may still be on the line. Not to mention, your refund is subject to "standard" fees, meaning there's no way to get 100% back, even if you follow all the steps to return your rider in the first place.

The cost is hard to ignore. Bikes in general are a big purchase and a steep investment, but StreetStrider fails to offer products that are more accessible to the mass majority. At the low end, you'll have to drop--without the luck of catching a sale--$1700. At the high end, you could drop up to $4,500, which, for many, is either wholly unrealistic for their budget, or simply not worth it for a luxury item.

Looking forward to striding at home? You better be ready to drop an extra $300. The at-home, indoor bike trainer stand is true-to-brand when it comes to cost, and can be overly noisy to boot. It can't be stressed enough that to use this at home, you're looking at a minimum cumulative cost at around $2,000, more with shipping and handling, and even more if you go with more versatile models.

While shopping online is great for convenience, online-only can be tricky when it comes to personal preference and fully understanding big purchases. StreetStrider's website is chock full of testimonials, reviews, and media coverage. But, without a retail presence or showroom, there's no way for you to test your StreetStrider before you purchase it... Combine that with a labyrinth of a return/exchange process and it feels like a higher risk big purchase.

IDEAL CUSTOMER

The ideal customer is anyone looking to be more active, but especially those with pre-existing joint pain, old injuries that prohibit more traditional workouts like biking or running, and those who may be getting older and experiencing additional joint pain. The StreetStrider would be a great investment for people who really don't have other options when it comes to being active.

How long does the product last?

The good news is StreetStrider comes with all the service components typical of an ordinary bicycle and can be maintained by the handier among us right at home. Or, if you're not quite up to fiddling with tires, gears, breaks, and adjustments, your local bike shop will be able to service your Street Rider as they would your bike. With proper maintenance and regular tune-ups, it can last over a decade and as long as a lifetime.

Coupon/sales

StreetStrider has a holiday sale leading up to New Years', where you can get a free indoor stand and free shipping--saving roughly $400--when you buy a StreetStrider. Other than that, they don't have regular rewards or a rewards program. But they do offer payment plans and 0% APR financing.

GOOD FOR GIFTING?

The StreetStrider is a big purchase, both physically--they're clunkier than bicycles--and financially, which makes it a complicated gift. While it may be a nice gift for someone you already know would love one, has space for one, and has expressed interest in one... it may be a bit of a risk for gifting. It's definitely a high-ticket gift, and could be a really great treat for that special someone. But, with so many models and options--and high prices--I'd say gifting is a no go, unless you're okay with ruining the surprise and consulting the giftee directly on exactly what they want, what you can afford, and what makes sense for your space and lifestyle.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

StreetStrider customer service is mediocre. While they have call lines for questions, concerns, and issues with your order, the overall impression isn't necessarily a welcoming one. Especially when it comes to returning and/or exchanging items, it feels like there are a lot of hoops for customers to jump through, and not a lot of support to do so. Where other brands are open and upfront about wanting to help and customer satisfaction, Street Rider seems to advocate for... StreetSrider. There are definitely ways to get some of your money back or connect with representatives, but all in all those avenues are a little too rigid for my liking.

Packaging

The StreetStrider comes with assembly instructions, a toolkit for self-assembly, as well as a DVD guided video to help you assemble your StreetStrider and get riding. They also have a 24-hr service number, where you can get one-on-one counseling and support for assembling your StreetStrider. If you order White Glove service, your StreetStrider will arrive pre-assembled for you.

Order fulfillment can take up to 4-6weeks and shipping can take anywhere from 3-10 days to arrive at your doorstep. They offer UPS Standard Shipping, as well as a White Glove Service, at a cost. This option means you will need to connect with FedEx before they schedule your delivery, once the fully assembled StreetStrider arrives at their facility.
