Hydrow is a muscle building, cardio inducing, and core working form of exercise. Hydrow is a total body workout. It works 86% of a users muscles, according to Hydrows statistics on their website. 86% is nearly double the muscles that a person uses when cycling and running. This means that in half the time a Hydrow user is working the same muscles that they would cycling and running. The Hydrow is very easy to learn, is very low impact, and can be used by the whole family. It? a really good alternative to a bike machine or cycling machine.

With 1,500 plus classes Hydrow at home is a workout machine that has led workouts with athletes that are real time on the water. Hydrow has all of it? rows recorded live, so the experience is authentic when the users join the classes. Users can explore at their own pace with unguided rows through scenic waterways at any time of the day. The classes offered are a community experience, with athletes that are authentic competitors or awarded for their sport. The 1500 classes are more than workout classes to turn on and off, they are guided by incredible coaches. Some of the classes are instructed by former division one collegiate athletes, former rowing Olympians, US national triathlon team members, and US national team members. There are even life-like experiences available to the user- like rowing down the Charles River in Boston in their annual HOCR 4702 race. From this annual race in Boston, actual results were posted from Hydrow rowers.

The patented technology of the Hydrow allows for the experience rowing on one of these machines to feel like the user is really rowing on the actual water. Because they have a patented model for the machinea, no other companies are able to copy the technology and mechanisms that Hydrow has created to make the experience feel life-like. The handle on the machine has an ergonomic design for low stress grip, which is comfortable for users. Hydrow also has features on the machine that enable for heart rate monitors and audio through Bluetooth.

Pros & Cons
Pros:

Compared to other competitors, Hydrow has the best design available on the market. Peloton doesn't offer a rowing machine so there is no comparison for rowing. Compared to Pelotons treadmills and bikes, which are also very sleek and include workout screens, guided workout classes, and coaches, Hydrow is still the most eye-catching design. There is no comparison from NordicTrack or Rogue Fitness that can compete with the Hydrow Design.

Specializing in one main product can be a pro for Hydrow. This site is a one stop shop. The Hydrow company has focused their energy on creating an incredible machine, technology, and user experience, and it can be very attractive to a site visitor to know exactly what they are buying on the site they visit. When a company like Hydrow specializes in one product, the time they put into engineering and perfecting their product is also a great selling point.

Hydrow has a user friendly website design, layout, and marketing. From the homepage, it? very clear what this company's intentions are and what their product is. The four tabs on the top of the site help users navigate the main and most important features and information of the Hydrow. Then near the cart icon, there is another menu bar on the right, that includes buying features at the top, then an about section, athlete section, and financing section. Site visitors also have the option to scroll down the screen to review the product, it? story, and information about the product experience.

The Hydrow is instructed and coached by world class athletes, former olympians, former US national team members, and high skilled/qualified instructors. This brings credibility to the workouts and the coaching, because the experience is more than just a workout class- it? instruction from some of the most qualified rowers in the world with years of trusted experience and knowledge. On the Hydrow website, users can view who the athletes are before purchasing the Hydrow machine- this helps potential customers know exactly who will be teaching them while they row.

Cons:

The Hydrow is a high end machine and therefore it is not made for everyone to buy. It's an expensive investment. Even though there is an option on the website to be able to finance this machine, it's price limits it? amount of buyers and it can be a con for this company to not have their prices be lower. However, the point of the Hydrow is that it is high end and engineered well, so it? price is not outrageous given its technology and how long it is made to last.

The Hydrow is a very big machine and even though it has the ability to be folded up with the upright kit the site offers, it still is fairly long. The dimensions are ~7ft long by ~2ft wide, and it? ~3ft tall. The amount of space the Hydrow takes up, even when upright, could be a con for potential customers. For example: a 7ft long machine could equate to the size of a couch in an NYC apartment.

The monthly membership of $38/mo a user has to purchase along with the machine. The point of the at-home workout is not to pay an extra monthly membership like a user would if they went to a gym. This means annually, a customer that purchases Hydrow is paying $576/yr to use this machine. If a customer sees the pre purchase option available on the Hydrow site, the one year membership is only $456. This makes the price of the Hydrow $576/yr for as long as the customer owns their Hydrow.

The accessories needed for the Hydrow to work with a customer's home and make the Hydrow a full workout experience are not included upon purchase, unless on a holiday sale. For example, the Hydrow black mat that goes under the machine, the Hydro upright storage kit for the machine, the multi resistance band kit, the mat workout kit, and the Polar OH1 heart rate monitor are not included when buying the Hydrow machine. The monthly subscription is also not included in the Hydrow purchase.

There are three different NordicTrack rowers that each come with a different sized screen ranging from 10 inches to 22 inches. Each screen is a touch screen and is in full-color smart HD. Each rower and screen has digitally Amplified sound transports. On every NordicTrack rower, the screen is adjustable and can move back and forth. There are also 26 different digital and air resistance levels on the NordicTrack rower to work with any workout or user's preference. The resistance is silent, smooth, and adjustable. The NordicTrack rowers have oversized footrests that have quick-release nylon adjustable straps for any foot size and any comfort. NordicTrack rowers all fold in half for storage purposes.

The NordicTrack trainer can take users all around the world from the comfort of their own home. Because of their interactive and Bluetooth accessible training sessions, that are filmed both inside and outside, users can travel from beaches to canyon ravines, to rivers, to oceans, all within the comfort of their own home.

The trademark storage of the NordicTrack SpaceSaver's Design provides a feature that NordicTracks competitors can? offer. This technology vertically folds for easy storage, so an individual can use their rower, and then store it whenever they aren't using it. The SpaceSaver? Design is great for people that live in apartments or smaller houses, and want a rower, but aren't able to fit a huge rower in their space all the time. The SpaceSaver's design, helps individuals to be able to buy the NordicTrack even if they don't have a home gym or huge spaces to put this rower.

Pros & Cons
Pros:

NordicTrack rowers by far have the best storage capabilities with the SpaceSaver? design. The fact that they can fold in half is better than the Hydrow rower storage technology which is simply clipped to a ring on an individual's wall. Not everyone wants a ring on their wall, or their rower always front and center in their home gyms or living spaces. The storage technology and foldable ability of the NordicTrack rowers make them more available to a wider range of customers because individuals can store their rowers, pack them easily when moving, or fold them away during a workout if they want to utilize floor space.

The NordicTrack rowers come at the best cost for their quality. Although none of them look as sleek as a Hydrow rower or a Peloton bike or tred, they do have screens, interactive training sessions, and Olympic gold medalists coaching them for workouts, just like Hydrow. The NordicTrack rowers also have several features and technologies that make them comfortable and customizable to each individual's adjustment preferences, just like the Hydrow. The fact that the NordicTrack rowers are almost $1,000 cheaper than the Hydrow rower and serve a very similar purpose, says a lot about the accessibility of this product to many more people than the Hydrow rower.

The NordicTrack rower comes from a trusted brand of fitness machines and the credibility is hard to compete with. A NordicTrack rower made from a company that sells bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, strength training machines, and has been in gyms around the world, could be a more attractive option than buying from a company that just sells rowers. The credibility of NordicTrack lies in the fact that they've been around for a while. Hydrow was established in 2017 and NordicTrack has been making workout machines since 1975. To some shoppers, this matters and will sway sales.

NordicTrack users get their first year of iFit interactive personal training for free. The iFit subscription gives the user a library of beginner, intermediate, and advanced workouts that are indoor, in the studio, outdoor, and some that are based on Google Maps. When a user is in the outdoor workouts, the NordicTrack automatically adjusts its resistance level to match the wind and water conditions. The subscription price for the NordicTrack iFit training also only costs $15 a month for individuals or $33 a month for family plans after the 1-year iFit membership expires. Users don't need the iFit membership to use the NordicTrack rowers, they can still use the roller in manual mode and access some of the iFit workouts. But if an individual is buying a roller with a screen, they are probably going to want all the features that come with it. The iFit library and on-demand after workouts are filmed in over 40 countries. The iFit membership also offers an interactive personal training feature that lets coaches control the resistance of the row bar during sessions. The user always has the option to override what the instructor suggests, but it's still a really cool feature that NordicTrack offers - it makes the experience for the user feel one on one.

Cons:

Although the NordicTrack is less expensive than the Hydrow and any Peloton exercise machines, it is still a very expensive machine to own and therefore it is not accessible to everyone. Spending over $1,000 on a machine and then having to purchase a monthly subscription of iFit after only one year of having a free trial, makes this product cost way more than its initial price.

Buying a rower is way less common than buying a treadmill or a bike. Also, a rower is good for a family but it's probably less used by the whole family than a treadmill. There are also way fewer rowers in gyms than there are treadmills and bikes. In general, rowers are less popular than treadmills and bikes.

Although the NordicTrack has a better folding system than the Hydrow Rower it is still a very big machine and does weigh over one hundred pounds. It's not accessible for everyone's living situation and isn't a very common piece of equipment to buy for a household considering its weight and size.

The design of the NordicTrack rower is less appealing than the design of the Hydrow Rower. Because the Hydrow Rower doesn't fold up there's a smooth and sleek look to it that the NordicTrack rower lacks.

Peloton

Overview

Peloton offers two treadmills and two bike options. The first treadmill option is called the Peloton Tread and the second is the Peloton Tread Plus. Both the Peloton Tread and the Peloton Tread Plus have the option of adding resistance bands, weights, heart monitors, workout mats, and other essentials for a user's full body workout. The Peloton Bike and the Peloton Bike Plus also include add ons that an individual can add for their bike workout. The add ons are shoes, bike weights, headphones, heart rate monitor, a bike mat, and water bottles. The Peloton Bikes and Treds are meant for an instructed total body workout on and off the machines.

The add ons are shoes, bike weights, headphones, heart rate monitor, a bike mat, and water bottles. The Peloton Bikes and Treds are meant for an instructed total body workout on and off the machines.

Peloton Bikes and Treds have HD screens attached to their fronts with on-demand classes that range from 5 to 90 minutes. They are live on the Peloton app. There are weekly classes with real-time instructors. There are diverse class types that have different themes, difficulty levels, and music genres. They also have classes with live DJ's, classes that are low-impact, uphill geared classes, low impact classes, intervals and arms classes, a signature series, and classes for the bike or tred beginner. All of the classes are taught by top-performing fitness instructors and trainers, and cater to the user skill level.

On the Peloton website, there are 34 instructors to choose from. Users can review on the Peloton website the trainers that will be instructing their classes by clicking on the "Glasses" tab, then the sub-tab "Instructors". There are yoga instructors, tred instructors, bike instructors, and versatile instructors that teach both bike and yoga or bike and tread. A user can read about these instructors before taking a class or even before purchasing a Peloton machine. It's a lot like a gym setting, where an individual can pick who their instructor is, what time they want to go to their live classes, and who they're going to be in class with. For example, a user can click on one of the instructors, in this case, Ali Love, and there is a blurb about her as a Peloton instructor. It says that she's a certified health coach, who's the host of the Brooklyn Nets, she is a runner and found her Fitness Lifestyle brand called Love Squad. An example for a tread instructor is Rebecca Kennedy, she has a dance, gymnastics, track and field foundation, was a Bootcamp instructor, and a Nike master trainer. This is a really big highlight on the Peloton website because it's organized very well for users to scroll through and it makes it easy for users to get to know who is going to be instructing their classes and who they want to be instructed by. Because this is an at-home virtual experience Peloton is making it more welcoming, exciting, and as inclusive as possible. This feature makes it really feel like the user is part of an incredible exercise experience that is made for them. It also creates a sense of community amongst Peloton users.

The Peloton live schedule is very user friendly. At the top of the live schedules home page, there are categories of strength, yoga, meditation, cardio, cycling, running, walking, tread boot camp, and bike boot camp. These categories allow users to pick what they want their workout to be on that specific day and based on what Peloton machine or machines they have. Bellow the workout preferences are dates and days of the week date. A user can click on a day of the week and a schedule will pop-up of the classes for that day, how long the classes are, and who they're instructed by. Then on the right-hand side, if you want to join a class - ex: 5 p.m. 30-minute cycling class with Jess King- there is a Count Me In button and a user can join that class.

Pros & Cons
Pros:

Peloton is all about their class experience. Peloton is the forerunner for bringing live, virtual classes, with high end instructors in people's homes. The addition of the screen on the equipment was game changing and shifted how individuals thought about at home workouts and being part of a live workout community without going to a gym. Peloton is a very trusted brand and is one of most popular names in this category of workout equipment.

Peloton bikes and treads are definitely an investment, but the investment is worth it because it's the convenience of having a gym, classes, and instructors all on one machine, all from the comfort of a user's home. Without taking up a ton of space, having live instructors, on-demand workouts, and having over ten live classes a day that is available with professionally trained instructors is a great trade-off for the initial cost. At first, Peloton is expensive and there is a monthly membership cost. However, the prices can all be split if it? more than a one-person investment or membership, it can be financed, and after a couple of years, Peloton starts costing less than a gym membership. If an individual was paying $60/mo-$200/mo on a gym membership that will eventually cost more when the Peloton machinery is paid off and the user is only paying for their monthly membership. Individuals are getting excellent training from their home, and the best part is, it saves them time. Anyone can leave their house and do outdoor Peloton workouts, but they also never have to leave their home again when they work out.

Peloton solves a common problem for many people who love working out but don't have the time to. Whether they are on a lunch break or if they're in between meetings, Peloton allows really busy people to find workouts that fit their schedule- even during their workday. Individuals don't have to rush to a class at a gym anymore, they can simply walk into their living room.

Peloton changed the way at home gyms are seen. Peloton brought a true workout experience to individuals, because of their membership classes and the full experience of owning a Peloton machine. The benefit of having Peloton, especially during COVID, is that users can stay safe in their home, but still feel like they're experiencing a really rigorous workout. Users can also feel that they are engaging with their instructors and other users in the same workout class. Anyone who has a Peloton membership can join the same class as their Peloton workout partners or friends. The rising significance of the at-home workout experience can be proven by looking at the Peloton stock prices and how they rose starting in March of 2020. In March 2020 the price of a Peloton stock was about $19 USD and in October 2020, the Peloton stock hit $136 USD. It? now at $117 USD but it? on the rise again (it might have lowered with the announcement of a COVID vaccine). Either way, the at-home gym experience is not going anywhere, and Peloton does it the best.

Cons:

Peloton is very expensive and therefore is inaccessible to many people who want to purchase at home Peloton bikes or treads. Even though the cost is worth the experience, it is still a very expensive investment for a family or an individual to have.

Although the Peloton bikes and treads are enough for an entire home gym and the classes that are offered give a great gym feeling, the machines are still very big and take up space that not everyone can afford to give up. The size of Peloton equipment (5-8ft range) and weight (100-300lbs) could deter individuals from purchasing.

Another Peloton con is that there are no storage options Peloton talks about online. Because these machines are big and heavy, customers also might deter from purchasing because they won't know where to store them when they're not using them. Some people might want to use the Peloton equipment, but they might not want it to be front and center in their living room at all times. Not everyone has a separate space in their house for a home gym.

Financing options for the Peloton equipment is great. However, if a person is paying for a Peloton membership- whether it's the $12.99/mo membership or the all-access membership of $39.99 and they're paying monthly financing for the equipment, it could be over $100 a month for a year or more. These continual monthly expenses could be a turn-off for many individuals wondering if they should purchase the Peloton equipment.

Rogue Fitness

Overview

Rogue Fitness rowing machines are a half to a third of the price of Hydrow rowers, NordicTrack rowers, and Peloton workout equipment. Although the screen and training experience is not part of the Rogue Fitness rowers, they still give the user major results that they want to see from a rowing machine. For example, the Black Concept 2 Model D rower, at the price of $900, has ergonomically designed handles, adjustable foot rests, and a flywheel designed for smooth movement with minimal noise. This rower also has a comfortable seat, with an aluminum monorail, and a stainless steel track for back and forth slide. Rogue Fitness rowers are what rowing feels like- they work the same muscles as the rowing machines that are double and triple the price, and they provide a very complete full body workout. It's very easy to learn how to use Rogue Fitness rowers, a user or gym simply sets them up and starts rowing.

It's very easy to learn how to use Rogue Fitness rowers, a user or gym simply sets them up and starts rowing.

All the Rogue Fitness rowers have a really easy breakdown and storage process. For example the Gray concept 2 Model D rower has the ability to be quickly folded and be rolled on wheels anywhere in a home or gym. The entire unit folds into compact sections using the quick release frame lock mechanism. There are no tools needed for this breakdown process or making the rower mobile. Also, this rower is only 57 lbs and the heaviest rower Rogue Fitness has is 67lbs. A user or gym owner can purchase an additional Rogue rower hanger to store as many rowers as they want in a gym or just the one roller at home. Since it? lightweight for a rower, hanging it on a wall at home is doable.

The PM5 performance monitor on the Rogue rowing machines is very comprehensive and easy for anyone to use whether they're a beginner rower or an Olympic rower training in a gym. It tracks a user's distance, speed, pace, calories that are burned, and watts. All of this information is presented on a very simple screen that only has three main buttons-units, display, and menu. The PM5 performance monitor connects to a wireless heart monitor via Bluetooth and can give users optional data to track a more detailed workout. This monitor is great for athletes to be able to improve on their workouts weekly. There is also a USB flash drive that's compatible and built for machine vs. machine racing- two users can race on two different rowing machines using this USB flash drive compatibility.

The Rogue Fitness rowers all use a flywheel and damper system to help change the resistance of the rowing experience. This air resistance is generated by a fan flywheel- a user sits on their rogue fitness rower (they all use the same technology) and begins by pulling the aluminum bar which activates the flywheel. The flywheel acts as the air resistance the user would feel if they were actually on the water. The Model D rower includes a damper adjustable that goes from a set of one to ten. The setting from one to ten affects how much energy will be needed to accelerate from one stroke to the next. Setting ten allows in the most air for more wind resistance- the higher the damper adjustment, the harder and more wind resistance there is. It's a very simple system that can be really great for a class setting, new users, and users that don't want anything but the rowing experience. This system is also really great because it's very user-intuitive to comprehend. In a class setting, if an instructor asks everyone to adjust their rower's resistance, they know ten is high resistance and one is low resistance. That's how fitness equipment in gyms has been working for years.

Pros & Cons
Pros:

The Rogue Fitness rowing machines are priced at $900-$1,100. They give the same physical experience it's competitors offer for way higher prices. This rower works the same muscles that their competitors do, and they offer an incredible workout to any user. They are priced at $900, compared to their competitors which are priced at $1,500 or more. They are the most affordable rowers amongst competitors, and therefore, the most attainable for larger groups of people, and for gyms to purchase in bulk. In general, the Rogue Fitness Machines that have concept 2 rowers are priced well and therefore attainable for more users. Concept2, which is what Rogue Fitness sells, is the most popular brand of rowing machines in the world and has been around since 1976.

The Rogue Fitness rowing machines are very easy to assemble. The assembly process is user-friendly and includes everything a user needs for a quick set up process. The front legs are installed using screws, and there are clear instructions included in the box that is shipped. Within 20-30 minutes of opening the box, any of the Rogue Fitness rowers are ready to use. There is no other setup process needed- there are no apps, there are no memberships, and anyone can start rowing right after setting up. The Rogue Fitness machines are user friendly in assembly and use, which is good for all skill levels and ages.

Another Pro of the Rogue Fitness machines are the max user's weight of all their rowers is 500 lb. Compared to competitors, some only have a max weight of 300 lb. The Rogue Fitness rowing machine equipment is meant for a broader group of people to use because of the max weight limit reaching 500lb, it's easy to use for all ages, and easy setup. The fact that the max weight is 500lbs allows anyone to get onto this machine and start rowing. These machines are definitely made for more of the general public than for a specific group of people or a small demographic.

Another Pro of the Rogue Fitness rower is the shipping process. If orders are placed by 3 p.m. they ship exactly the same day, and because the company has been around for thirteen years, their shipping is highly reliable and their customer service within shipping is productive and helpful. Their system allows users to track their order from the time they place the order, to the moment it shows up at the shipping address. Rogue Fitness products ship flat rate within the continental US. Because of Covid-19, it is now taking about 5 to 7 days for orders to ship once the order has been shown as processed. This delay is not typical, however. Usually how Rogue Fitness Shipping works is that it's designed to get new products to users as fast and efficiently as possible- usually they ship on the day of a user's order if the item is well stocked. The online shipping tracker allows anyone to follow how their order is being fulfilled.

Cons:

A con of Rogue Fitness is that it does not provide the user experience that other competitors do. Rogue Fitness doesn't have any training HD screens or memberships that allow instructors to teach their rowers digitally. The Rogue Fitness rowers are made just for the machinery.

The Rogue Fitness rowing machine is not an attractive looking piece of gym equipment. The physical look of the rower is not what this rower was made for. Compared to the Hydrow, NordicTrack, or any Peloton machine, the Rogue Fitness rowers can? compare. Rogue fitness rowers are made to endure and made to row.

A design con of the Rogue Fitness rowers is the seat. Within the customer reviews section, one customer talked about the comfortability of the Rogue Fitness rower seat. Personally, I've used the Rogue fitness rowers, and I can see how this could be a design flaw. The rower seats aren? very comfortable, (but no rower seat is usually comfortable.) Most seats on rowing machines are small and hard. The seat comfortability is something that could be changed about the actual design of the Rogue Fitness machines, but not vital.

The Rogue Fitness rowers are currently all out of stock. On their site, there isn't any notification as to when they will be in stock- a customer only has the ability to say notify me, or "Add to wish list". Obviously with Covid-19, a lot of companies have found themselves low on stock, or unable to keep up with demands- but it's still a bad look for a company to not be able to supply the amount of product they need to their customers. It also is a con because it makes users more upset if they were expecting a product to be available and there is none in stock. Rogue Fitness is losing money by not having enough of their rowers available. It? a con for them and for their customers.
